Eagles Open Season at Ed Muphey Classic
MEMPHIS, TN (August 15, 2021) – The St. Benedict Boys and Girls cross country teams started the 2021 season with a bang Saturday, taking part in the Ed Murphey Classic.
Now in its fifth year at Christian Brothers High School, the event attracts some of the city's top talent and serves as an early-season test for local high school teams.
The Eagles took part in both boys and girls divisions of the Toadlyfe 3200m race.
Savannah Scott led the way for the Lady Eagles, finishing in fifth with a time of 13:19 while Sommer Griffis crossed the line sixth in 14:38. Ella Lamey posted a seventh place finish in 14:41 and Sarah Wiggins was a second back in eighth.
Daniel Leoni was the top runner for the SBA boys, posting a time of 10:46 and finishing ninth. Colin Kozlowski took 15th (11:45), Mark Koch 16th (11:47) and Jaylon Hawkins 17th (12:50).
The SBA cross country teams are back in action on Saturday, August 28 at the Fast & Furious Early Bird Invitational.
