Eagles Defeat Turkeys in Region Opener

(MEMPHIS, TN - January 11, 2022) - The SBA girls' basketball team opened the 2021-22 region schedule with a massive 55-50 victory at St. Mary's (5-4, 0-1) on Tuesday night.

Farrah Rector led the Eagles in scoring with 17 points in her best performance of the season.

Izzie Polania chipped in 15 herself and Maria Bair notched a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds. All around, it was the best performance of the season for the Eagles.

The game was even in the first half. St. Mary's jumped out to an early lead but Rector's strong second quarter flipped the momentum and the game was knotted at 32 by halftime.

The SBA run came in the third quarter, when Polania began to heat up from the floor and the team managed to hang on despite only scoring eight points in the fourth quarter.

The Turkeys put up a fight and Jane Chancellor (23 points) offered stiff competition but it was ultimately SBA that walked away with an important region victory.

The girls (3-10, 1-0) will look to make it two region victories in a row at home against Hutchison on Friday night.
