Lady Eagles Open Season at the Beach

(BILOXI/GULFPORT, MS - March 11-16, 2024) - The Lady Eagle softball team made the drive to southern Mississippi over Spring Break.

The first half of the week held the Harrison County Tournament, in which the team went 1-2-1.

Charlee Smith got the win and hit a grand slam in an exciting 14-13 tournament-opening win against Alama Bryant (MS), while Zoie Bernard doubled, tripled, and drove in three.

The team lost the next two games to Hernando (MS) and South Panola (MS). Meredith McCusker hit two homers in the Hernando game.

In the final tournament game, the team tied Picayune (MS) 0-0 in eight innings.

From there, the girls traveled to Gulfport for their second tournament of the week.

The team went 3-3 in this tournament, highlighted by Izzy Henderson's three hits in a 6-5 win over Madison Central (KY) and three hit games by Smith and Ava Coleman in an 8-0 shutout of Biloxi (MS).

Jorja Wheeler threw nine shutout innings and struck out 18 against George County (MS) in the finale.

The team hosts USJ on Tuesday.
