SBA Boys Get Big Region Win at MUS

(MEMPHIS, TN - February 15, 2022) - The SBA boys' basketball team secured its first region win of the season by pulling out a tightly contested 49-41 win at MUS on Tuesday.

Coach Josh Weeden's gameplan paid off as the Owls (15-8, 3-2) did not have the same fastbreak success they experienced in the first matchup and interior standout R'Chaun King was held to just five points. MUS struggled to hit shots against the SBA 2-3 zone and the Eagle offense was able to slowly build momentum.

The first half was a low-scoring, 19-17 affair during which both teams played at a slow pace and made shots were at a premium. The Eagles made their push in the third quarter as game high scorer Damion Cox (21 points) started to heat up. Marcus Gray (12 points) hit a few key three pointers for SBA.

The Owls were led by Curtis Givens III and Brandon Nicholson, who both had 13 points. They attempted to turn up the heat in the fourth quarter via the press, but SBA successfully possessed the ball and hit free throws down the stretch.

The boys (8-14, 1-4) will look to continue to build momentum this week in advance of their pivotal home matchup with Briarcrest on Friday.
