MUS Deals SBA Loss in Region Opener

(CORDOVA, TN - January 14, 2022) - St. Benedict and MUS (12-3, 1-0) renewed their rivalry at The Nest to open the season's region schedule.

The Owls took control of the game early but SBA kept it within range before taking a 62-50 loss.

R'Chaun King was the game's leading scorer with 24 points and a number of highlight-worthy dunks. MUS was able to take advantage of a number of fastbreak opportunities early in the game, blitzing the Eagles to secure a 17-8 lead at the end of the first quarter. Curtis Givens (19 pts) scored the majority of his points in the second quarter but the SBA offense showed up to the party and kept the game close.

Three Eagles, including Marcus Gray (21 pts), Damion Cox (19 pts), and Gary Bair (10 pts), combined to score all of SBA's points in the game. Down the stretch, MUS methodically closed out the game thanks to the steady hand of Givens and consistent scoring from King.

The boys are now 6-8 on the season and 0-1 in the region with a matchup against Collierville looming on Tuesday.
