Eagles Dominate in Senior Night Victory

(CORDOVA, TN - October 14, 2022) - The SBA football team celebrated its seniors on Friday night at The Nest with a dominating 59-22 win over Bluff City. It was the second consecutive win for the Eagles, following their victory against East.

The first quarter was closely contested. SBA got out to an early 14-0 lead thanks to a rushing touchdown by Antonio Adams and a 40-yard touchdown connection between Alex McAlpin (250 yds, 5 TD) and Cayden Willis (3 rec, 79 yds, 2 TD). It appeared that the Eagles would coast to the finish from there, but Bluff City punched back when Ravon Jefferson hit Taliko Russell on a short pass and he took it 74 yards to the house. The first quarter ended with SBA ahead 14-8.

The second quarter scoring was monopolized by the Eagles, who took full control of the game and never let go. Alex McAlpin threw three touchdowns in the quarter, including a 12-yard pass to Cayden Willis, a 25-yard pass to Isaiah Bolden, and a scintillating 98-yard pass to Antonio Adams. Adams appeared to be stopped just shy of the 20 yard line before spinning and juking around multiple defenders before turning on the jets to outrun the Bluff City defense on his way to the endzone as time expired. At the half, the Eagles led 33-8.

The third quarter passed with no points scored, but the fourth quarter was chock full of excitement. After Keilon Key returned a fumble for a touchdown to cut the SBA lead to 33-14, the teams combined for three consecutive kick return touchdowns. Antonio Adams had the first, a 61-yarder, which was followed by a 58-yarder for the Wolves' Taliko Russell and a 65-yarder by Cayden Willis to make it 47-22. McAlpin added one more touchdown to Zach Spencer and sophomore Matthew Kaw intercepted Jefferson on the final play of the game, running it back 57 yards to punctuate the blowout victory.

Adams was the star of the show, scoring a touchdown by rushing and receiving in addition to the kick return and narrowly missing hitting the century mark in both rushing and receiving yards. In addition to Adams, seniors Andrew McAlpin, Zach Spencer, Cole Seaton, and Joseph McCusker were honored before the game.

The team (2-6) will get back to its region schedule at Briarcrest on Friday.
