Football Falls to Brighton in Home Opener

(CORDOVA, TN - August 19, 2022) - The football team began its 2022 schedule by hosting Brighton at The Nest on Friday night.

Sophomore quarterback Alex McAlpin got things started with a bang, throwing a 28 yard touchdown pass to junior Jordan Ward early in the first quarter.

After a missed two point conversion, Brighton immediately responded with an 80 yard kick return by Keagan Jarmon and a two point conversion to take an 8-6 lead.

The Cardinals then forced a turnover and quarterback Cade Crowson connected on a 40 yard touchdown pass to Jalen Terry.

The Eagles responded to end a crazy first quarter tied at 14 after a Jordan Ward rushing touchdown and a two point conversion thanks to an acrobatic one handed catch by Cayden Willis.

In the second quarter, Brighton running back Ty Stark (33 car, 264 yds, 4 TD) took control, scoring two touchdowns, including an 88 yarder.

However, those were sandwiched by a 79 yard touchdown pass from McAlpin to Dewayne Moseley and the Eagles remained in range at halftime, down 28-20.

Brighton iced the game in the second half by continuing to pound the rock with Stark while the Eagle offense stalled out outside of an 89 yard kick return touchdown by Willis.

McAlpin finished the day with over 300 yards in the air, while Ward and Moseley both eclipsed the 100 yard receiving mark.

But Stark and the Cardinals proved to be too much and the final score rested at 56-26.

The team will travel to Cordova next Friday night looking to even their record at 1-1.
