(CORDOVA, TN - October 29, 2021) - On a chilly night at Tully Field, St. Benedict and Christian Brothers met in their yearly matchup.
The Purple Wave stormed out to an early lead thanks to impressive running from Dallan Hayden (112 yards, 3 TD), efficient passing from Ashton Strother (6-6, 108 yards, 2 TD), and a punt block touchdown.
The Eagle offense stalled out and CBHS pushed the lead to 49-0 at the half.
Other than a Hayden TD, the second half was all SBA as the Eagles fought back valiantly. Antonio Adams (15 car, 100 yards) caught a touchdown pass from Alex McAlpin (15-21, 2 TD) to cap a 90-yard touchdown drive out of the half.
Cayden Willis added yet another electrifying kick return, stiff arming a defender on his way to a 97-yard touchdown, and later added a beautiful touchdown catch on a great pass from McAlpin in the back of the endzone.
The final score showed 56-21 but spirits were high at SBA on Friday night as the team outscored CBHS in the second half 21-7 and the 1996 SBA football team that played in the state title game against Donelson Christian was honored at halftime.
