SBA Girls Win Thriller Against Lewisburg

(CORDOVA, TN - February 1, 2022) - The SBA girls' basketball team got Winterfest week started with a thrilling 68-63 win over Lewisburg (MS) (11-16) in double overtime on Tuesday night.

The Patriots proved to be a worthy opponent and built a lead that, at times, appeared to be sufficient to win. Allie Carroll was their leading scorer with 26 points and she shot well in the first quarter to help Lewisburg take the lead. The rest of the Patriot offense chipped in to produce a balance scoring effort.

Izzie Polania scored a season-high 26 points for SBA and fought to keep the Eagles within range early. At halftime, Lewisburg held a 28-24 lead.

In the third quarter, they extended the lead to nine and it briefly appeared as if the game was getting out of hand. However, the Eagles used a 16-7 fourth quarter to knot the score at 56 and force overtime. Maria Bair (14 pts) came up clutch during the late run, as did Sarah Wiggins (13 pts).

The first overtime period was a tense grinder in which both teams only scored two points, but the second overtime was all Eagles despite a push from Carroll.

The girls (4-16) will look to keep their momentum when they face Hutchison in a region matchup on Friday.
