Softball Loses to TRA in Extras

(CORDOVA, TN - May 9, 2022) - The softball team met Tipton-Rosemark in winner's bracket game on Monday afternoon to compete for a spot in the championship game of the TSSAA Division II-AA West Region Tournament.

The fans were treated to a thrilling game that saw the Rebels take an early lead, the Eagles build a four-run lead, and the Rebels mount a comeback in the bottom of the 7th.

Charlee Smith started the game on the mound for the Eagles and split time with Ginny Gex at various points in the game.

The Eagle offense surged in the middle innings, thanks to clutch hits from Chloe Gerard (3-4, 2B, 3 RBI) and a two-out two-run single from Gex.

Gerard made a number of big plays at second base and Meredith McCusker (2-4, 3B) laid out for a highlight catch in left field. Neely Taylor and Zoie Bernard both added three hits.

However, the Rebels mounted a 7th inning comeback that was punctuated by a two-out, three-run homer to tie the game at seven and force extras.

After a line-out double play ended the Eagle half of the inning, the Rebels walked it off in the bottom of the 8th on a single.

The team plays Briarcrest in an elimination game on Tuesday afternoon. The winner will face TRA directly after the game in a must-win matchup.
